Job Information

The BI Developer is part of a team responsible for enhancing and maintaining the data warehouse and associated reporting services in order to meet requests for new functionality from internal and external users. The job holder will be specifically responsible for managing the day-to-day development of the Business Intelligence reporting environment in response to these requests.

KEY COMPETENCIES & MAIN DUTIES

Experience of Business Intelligence reporting tools, Business Objects/FastStats/Cognos

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the day-to-day development of CDS Global’s Business Intelligence environment.
  • Responsible for managing and delivering updates to existing reporting databases and amendments to existing databases by completing the following activities as required:
  • Responsible for maintaining the company’s reporting security models covering both internal and external users and ensuring their permissions are configured accordingly.
  • Ensuring all databases and refreshes work efficiently, accurately and consistently.
  • Advising and assisting the BI Operations Manager with the release of new and amended reporting solutions from development into production.
  • Responsible for applying regular upgrades to the reporting environments as required to remain within

support guidelines, as and when required, to fix specific system bugs.

  • Proficient in drafting, reviewing and overseeing the production of technical documentation as required to

support the development process, including change requests, functional/technical specifications, training material and report specifications.

  • Ability to present and provide client training workshops, demonstrations, mentoring and coaching.

 

Additional Information

Business Intelligence Developer

ESSENTIAL

Experience of Business Intelligence reporting tools, Business Objects/FastStats/Cognos

  • At least two years ‘real world’ experience in a BI development role.
  • Experience of Apteco FastStats (Designer/Discoverer)
  • Experience of working with DataStage Parallel Edition (v8.5.x)
  • Exposure to at least one large-scale data warehousing project.
  • Strong understanding of associated methodologies (Kimball/star-schema modelling).

Desirable

    • Apteco accredited FastStats trainer.
    • Experience of data modelling products such as ErWIN.
    • Knowledge of ITIL approach to incident/change management.
    • Experience of Business Objects XIR2, XIR3
